South Asian Initiative for Migrant Labour Media Fellowship
Panos South Asia invites applications for the South Asian Initiative for Migrant Labour Media Fellowships 2017- 2018.
The fellowships are being offered by Panos South Asia as a part of a Swiss Development and Cooperation (SDC) project to encourage dialogue and discussion on migrant labour issues among the journalists in South Asia.
Applications are invited from mid-career and senior print, television, radio and web journalists who write/ report on migrant labour issues from Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The fellowship will support writing/ reporting stories on migrant labour from the region. The applicants should have a minimum of 10 years’ experience writing/ reporting on labour migration issues. The fellows will participate in an orientation workshop (Nepal) which will lay out terms of reference for research. They will have an opportunity for a field trip to a labour destination country that will link them with their peers from the neighbouring countries and understand migrant-related issues from a South Asian perspective.
Applicants should have a strong motivation for working on migrant labour issues in South Asia and should have worked on migrant-related stories in their local and international media.
The application, by email, would need to include the following:
1. A cover letter, in which the applicant explains his/her motivation for applying for the fellowship, and how he/she would use the fellowship to build on previous experience (1000-1500 words).
2. A detailed CV with the names and contact details of two referees.
3. Copies of two stories published on migrant labour issues. TV/radio/web journalists can also provide the link of the programme or website.
4. A copy of a scanned letter from the editor of the applicant’s publication, TV or radio channel supporting the application.
